Summary:

The Quality Inspector performs in-process and final inspection verification to inspect and/or test mechanical parts, weldments, or minor assemblies to customer requirements. May also perform the incoming inspection of raw material, purchased OEM, or build to print suppliers to ensure conformance with Company and/or Customer defined specifications.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform dimensional and physical inspection of manufactured and purchased mechanical parts, weldments, and small assemblies, for receiving inspection, in process, final acceptance and first article inspections, for process/product validation at required inspection checkpoints.
  • Perform inspections using manual inspection tools (i.e. micrometer, caliper, gage pins, thread gages).
  • Perform inspections using automated CMM equipment.
  • May write needed CMM programs using the Hexagon PCDmis software application.
  • Interfaces, on a limited basis, with customer representatives and assists in the conduct of inspection activity.
  • Responsible for ensuring that customer product is manufactured and packaged to customer specifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring procured materials indicate evidence of inspections and tests performed at the source in accordance with purchase order requirements.
  • Initiate the NCM process for non-conforming material and inadequate workmanship found in manufacturing and handling processes.
  • Support and promote department goals and objectives.
  • Observe safety requirements in the work area to assure a safe work environment is maintained.
  • Perform other duties as required by quality management representatives.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  

  • Good organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to make decisions, work independently and as a team member.
  • Familiarization with, and working knowledge of, Geometric Dimension and Tolerances and its application in the use of basic and sophisticated mechanical measurement and test equipment.
  • Proficiency in the use of basic measurement equipment and a working knowledge of more sophisticated measurement equipment such as optical comparators and coordinate measuring machines is required.
  • The ability to read and interpret complex documents such as; component drawings, assembly drawings, process and test procedures and technical instructions is essential.
  • Working knowledge of business software applications including, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Ability to develop inspection programs for CMM equipment using Hexagon PCDmis software applications is a plus. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Duties of the position are performed in a temperature controlled inspection lab as well as a manufacturing environment, with possible exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
  • Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions, sitting in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
  • Duties of the position may require periodic heavy manual effort and exertion including climbing, lifting, pulling and moving objects over 20 pounds.

 

Experience:

  • 5+ years of quality control and inspection experience in a related industry. 
  • Working knowledge of Hexagon PCDms is a requirement. 
  • CMM programming experience on PCDmis system is a plus.
  • ASQ Certified Mechanical Inspector qualification is a plus

 

Education: 

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Associate Degree in Science or Technical Trade preferred.
