The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for the effective operation and manufacturing of new and existing parts and production lots, as well as successfully detecting malfunctions in machine operations.  This position is responsible for operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce quality parts in accordance with detailed engineering drawings to very tight tolerances. Will work with CNC machining centers, CNC multi-spindle drilling machines and other manual drilling machines, single spindle mills, press brakes, sanders, and measuring equipment. Will review parts to drawings to ensure product meets specifications.


REPORTS TO:    Production Supervisor



  • Follows all established company policies, rules and regulations, ISO procedures and work instructions.
  • Works from CAD drawings, sketches and verbal instructions to produce products to specifications.
  • Will load parts and operate multiple types of machining equipment in a safe manner, in order to produce Quality parts on a timely basis to very close tolerances.
  • Monitors and changes tools as required.
  • De-burring parts as required to meet quality requirements.
  • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls media as required to insure quality of production.
  • Uses coordinate measuring machines and hand measuring tools to perform quality inspections. Does a first piece inspection and paperwork of own work, along with monitoring quality parameters on machined parts in-process using inspection sheets.  Performs dimensional inspection of products as required for conformance to quality requirements. 
  • Communicates with supervisor, engineers, quality and other personnel for priority of assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues. 
  • Keeps all equipment and work area being used clean and organized. Reports any unsafe equipment or conditions to supervisor immediately.  Exercises care in the use of all company equipment.
  • Supports the activities required for implementing and maintain the company’s strategic objectives along with continuous improvement or cost reduction activities.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision and gives no work direction to others.
  • Assists co-workers when necessary to meet work unit goals.
  • May be required to train other employees and assist in orientation of new employees.
  • Performs other duties as required and may be utilized in other areas and departments of manufacturing as workload may dictate.

Accredited, NASA-STD-8739 and all job duties are to be performed to support the business in meeting all requirements and documented instructions.  Will be responsible for the quality of work and meeting daily quantity standards.  Keep facilities, materials and work areas clean, organized and free of FOD, exercising care in their use. 



High School graduate or equivalent required.  Must have 12 month manufacturing experience in similar manufacturing environment operating general purpose machining and inspection equipment.  Must be able to handle all phases of machine operation. Requires intermediate knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments.  Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators and verniers.  Intermediate knowledge of reading drawings and specifications.  Work is performed in standing and reaching positions, and numerous other physical movements will be required as necessitated by each specific job.  Will be required to move heavy equipment and materials.  Follows oral and written instructions.  Scheduled overtime may be required.
