Detailed Description

  • Main role would be Automation Technical Program Management driving site automation projects working with internal and external automation teams. 
  • Works with CGA (Celestica Global Automation) teams to keep up to date on Corporate requirements and standards for automation.  
  • Works with internal customer focused teams to understand and identify where hardware and/or IoT automation projects can help improve efficiencies, gather appropriate data on requirements and savings in order to build business case to justify appropriate ROI and then work with internal and/or external automation solution providers to implement projects in a timely manner.
  • Will lead a work group or project team consisting of technical and support staff to build URS (User Requirement Specifications) for each appropriate automation project to enable internal or external automation solutions and to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
  • Incumbents apply in-depth knowledge in a specific area of specialization.
  • Work is performed within established professional standards and practices.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors and a considerable degree of judgement.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the division’s/department’s operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Works under minimum Supervision.
  • Seeks approval from others on matters outside of job/role scope.
  • Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives and possible solutions.
  • Unusual problems are solved jointly with manager.
  • Work is reviewed for application of sound technical judgment.
  • May lead a work group or project team consisting of technical and support staff.
  • Builds internal and external relationships, with emphasis on those that facilitate the achievement of job/role accountabilities, such as relationships with key suppliers, customers and internal service.

Perform tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provides technical expertise on assigned materials for production or customer-identified material problems.
  • Generates product specifications and provides to supplier.
  • Serves as the program/project interface to coordinate automation projects within internal and external groups
  • Translates customer requirements into factory activities, provides factory activity time estimates for pricing model, documents associated factory support activities, and develops preliminary program timeline for customer quote.
  • Defines process problems that lead to throughput or quality issues, evaluates cause of problem, implements solutions to stabilize processes, evaluates results. Participates in the selection of automation solutions
  • Evaluates software and hardware upgrades and new equipment as it relates to approriate automation solutions
  • Participates in setting equipment specifications and developing and managing qualification tests.
  • Gathers, understands and converts customer data into usable manufacturing information.
  • Verifies that specifications conform to customer, industry and company standards.
  • Creates and evaluates metrics to drive value provided by automation solutions.
  • Participates in development of assembly/test processes, associated fixtures, and specialized tools for automation where applicable
  • Automates where ever possible.
  • Flexbility to travel between Mississauga and Newmarket sites.  Preference for the majority of time to be typically spent at the Mississauga site with travel to Newmarket site when required / needed.

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment used for systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry and quality standards and SPC methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
  • In-depth knowledge of material science, robotics, machine programming.
  • In-depth knowledge of product pricing, contracts and contract negotiations.
  • Excellent customer contact, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
  • Good presentation, database management and computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical process control methods and techniques.
  • Ability to tests, evaluate results and recommend solutions to improve processes


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering, at a minimum. Project management certification would be an asset.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
