Position Summary:

If you are looking to join a forward thinking team in a dynamic working environment, we have an opportunity in the Global Tax team for a Senior Tax Manager reporting directly to the Senior Director, Global Tax and indirectly to the VP Global Tax & Treasury in Toronto, Ontario.  Those in this position will take a lead role in managing tax operations, tax planning and advisory, tax accounting and financial reporting for tax, and tax compliance. 


The candidate must possess strong transactional and international tax experience, the ability to lead internal and external tax professionals, and the ability to work well with cross functional teams.


You will be involved in projects or programs of diverse scope where analysis requires evaluation of business and taxation aspects on a multi-national or global basis, and will assist in developing and/or carrying out new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific.  Incumbents are accountable for delivering high quality work to ensure site’s / major function’s operations, schedules, and/or performance goals are met. 


This position will be responsible for tasks such as (but not limited to) the following:


  • Take a lead role in supporting the development and implementation of an integrated global tax plan, as well as other Global Taxation group or cross-functional initiatives, including managing global tax operations, continuous improvement initiatives, tax projects or planning initiatives, as well as other tax related matters
  • Review and assist in implementing transaction related tax structures and monitor risks or implement changes to existing structures
  • Advise and assist in developing tax-efficient strategies to manage global income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax impacts of non-routine business or corporate development (M&A) initiatives
  • Manage global tax authority audits and controversy, and assist in responding to queries from internal/external/government auditors
  • Review IFRS tax provisions and forecasts of global sites located in Asia, Europe and Americas, and provide value-added analysis in managing quarterly consolidated tax provision, uncertain tax positions and external reporting requirements
  • Ownership of compliance tasks to ensure timely completion all necessary Canadian, US and other foreign jurisdiction income tax and/or indirect tax returns, elections and other tax filings or information reporting, as well as reviewing transfer pricing studies, computations and reports
  • Develop, mentor and guide members of the tax department, and work collaboratively with cross functional stakeholders
  • Ensure that new developments in various jurisdiction tax rules are properly analyzed and conveyed to the appropriate people in the company and that processes are developed to ensure that the company is in compliance with laws and regulations


  • Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:


  • Advanced level of expertise in accounting for income taxes under IFRS and understanding of local GAAP in various jurisdictions
  • In-depth knowledge and proven capabilities in dealing with international corporate income tax concepts, including international tax, M&A, transaction advisory, OECD BEPS and double tax treaties
  • High-functioning understanding of global transfer pricing and indirect tax concepts
  • Ability to adeptly analyze new or existing tax rules and regulations in key jurisdictions (e.g., Canada, US, Mexico, UK, various EU, various Asia including China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong)
  • Provide leadership, coaching and training to other members within the team and within global Finance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers, and ability to collaborate and interface with cross-functional teams and international sites to establish strong working relationships and cooperation
  • Excellent knowledge of the marketplace conditions for taxation and finance
  • Knowledge of Celestica’s finance organization including strategic policies and objectives
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced and often pressured environment, managing multiple priorities and changing demands


  • Physical Demands:


  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data
  • Repetitive manual movements are frequently required (e.g. data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc)
  • Occasional overnight travel is required


  • Experience Requirements:


  • Currently an experienced Senior Tax Manager or Tax Director with minimum 5+ years of applicable tax experience working in a large, complex, multi-national company, including at least 5 years tax experience at a major accounting firm.
  • Advanced knowledge in the areas of corporate taxation and tax accounting is required.
  • In-depth experience in at least three of the following areas: transfer pricing, tax planning and advisory, international tax, M&A, indirect tax, tax-efficient supply chain management.


  • Education Requirements:



  • Masters degree (MBA) required
  • Professional designation (e.g. CPA) an asset
  • Advanced degree (MTax, MAcc) preferred
  • Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Courses (Parts I, II and III) or advance corporate tax education considered an asset
  • Completion of CPA In-Depth International Tax, Reorgs, or Transfer Pricing an asset
