About this opportunity: 

The IT Application Associate Intern position involves various levels of writing, testing and maintaining software solutions. The intern is also involved in design, performance optimization and implementation of the operational systems on various platforms to ensure solutions are meeting needs of the end user.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent project management skills
  • In-depth analytical skills
  • Excellent programming skills
    • Extensive Java development experience (Java EE 6/7)
    • Proven experience in JSR 168 and JSR 286 (Java Portlet Specification) development and support
    • Proven experience leveraging WSRP 2.0 Specification
    • Experience with Relational Databases (Oracle DB, PL/SQL)
    • Experience with build & development best-practices/tools (e.g. use of SVN, IDEs, etc.)
    • Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies
    • Basic knowledge in installing/configuring/administering web servers (IIS, Apache, IBM http server) and application servers (IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, Tomcat) would be considered an asset
  • Software design knowledge
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, disciplined, professional and a team player
  • Maintain on-call support

 

Activities:

  • Develop design specifications based on business requirements
  • Interact with business community to understand business process and define how software tools can be leveraged to optimize the business process
  • Ensure team members are provided with timely and accurate project information and status updates
  • Resolve project related issues with customer
  • Review field trial plans, risk assessments, and test results

 

Physical Demands, duties of this position are varied and will include:

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g. data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required
  • Occasional overnight travel is required

Education: Currently enrolled in a University Internship program completing 3rd year of a 4 year program in a Computer Science Degree Program.
