Summary

This job is a first-level manager within a site. Provides direct management to semi-skilled and entry-level professional employees performing diverse and/or specialized roles, or employees in more than one function or work group. This includes establishing annual plans/objectives and interpretation of policies related to the functional area. Contributes to policy development. Work is performed within established professional standards and practices. Receives assignments in the form of tasks and goals and follows established processes to meet the goals of the unit. Executes budgets, develops schedules, and enforces policies and procedures. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the divisions/departments operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Provides immediate supervision to employees in more than one function or work group, assigning tasks and checking work at regular intervals. Directs subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies. Makes hiring and firing decisions. Reviews employees performance and recommends employee compensation; coaches for improved performance and disciplines as necessary. Interacts directly with subordinates and peer groups. Builds strong internal and external relationships that require exchanging of information and providing explanations in a problem solving capacity.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Directs activities to support all manufacturing operations equipment availability (uptime), preventative maintenance of equipment, scheduling of technician training, project planning and implementation, scheduling of equipment installation, purchasing of spare parts and supplies for area related needs.
  • May also manage a team of Process and Test Engineers who develop specialized tools to automate and ease test development, and develop and execute test/process strategy for new products including design for test/process (DFx) analysis and feedback.
  • Supports and manages customer test process sustaining effort including incorporation of engineering changes and identifying yeild improvements efforts.
  • Manages activities pertaining to new product test development and implementation into manufacturing.
  • Also requires administration of standard management activities.

  • Engineering Foundation Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of Process and Test Engineering standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the business unit and how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery and the profitability of the unit.
  • Ability to coordinate a wide variety of resources to meet production quality and quantity metrics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively lead, manage, train and motivate a diverse group of employees to achieve high production levels within tight time deadlines and in a highly dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use some or all of the following PC applications: Word, Lotus Notes, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to plan strategically for the coordinated delivery of a variety of materials.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
  • Duties of this position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motion, standing, sitting in a confined work space, climbing, using equipment, handling lightweight materials, etc.
  • Duties of this position require periodic heavy manual effort and considerable exertion including lifting objects over 20 pounds, requiring straining, pulling and lifting.
  • Duties may require periodic sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • May require occasional travel.

Typical Experience

  • Five to seven years of relevant experience

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
