Summary

The Senior Lead Engineer, Mechanical Design develops new mechanical systems/modules and maintains existing designs. Research mechanical concepts and create system solutions using 3D modeling and simulation software. Complete calculations and test, validate, and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the mechanical system that they have designed.
The Senior Lead Engineer, Mechanical Design works with cross functional teams of other engineers, customers, supply chain and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions in multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to a team of engineers. May be a recognised expert (go to person) in one or more technical areas
  • Review, interpret and may negotiate customer requirements/specifications and provide customer feedback
  • Lead the deployment of strategic programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts.
  • Proactively promote industry best practices
  • May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
  • Prepare calculations on the proposed solution before completing technical drawings
  • Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs. E.g. Sketch and draw up designs using input from other engineers, requirements and input from design review (DFx) team
  • Create designs in line with company procedure, regulations and client standards
  • Submit drawings to management, engineering teams and customers for review.
  • Use customer feedback and data to upgrade, improve or repair the company's existing machines
  • Provide support during the manufacturing process
  • Finalize designs and send prints to the production department

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Engineering Foundation Competencies
  • Proficiency in using 3D solid modeling/MCAD. Preferably Creo, current to at least Creo 5.
  • Proficiency with Windchill PDM
  • Knowledge and understanding of the business unit and how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery and the profitability of the unit.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of engineering design, development, and production in a highly dynamic engineering environment.
  • Broad knowledge of an electronic manufacturing environment, materials and processes.
  • Familiarity with high-speed PCBA system design and interconnect
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong knowledge of electromechanical design requirements and execution for high-end, complex telecommunications or datacenter products, at the PCB, chassis, and rack level
  • Experience in managing design tradeoffs in the areas of mechanical design, thermal management, EMC, and hardware design
  • Strong design experience with sheet metal (both soft- and hard-tooled), injection molded parts, thermal management technologies, and designing complex and dense electromechanical products
  • Prior experience with ECAD/MCAD collaboration and data transfer (IDF)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively lead, train and motivate a diverse group of employees to meet high levels of technical requirements within tight time deadlines.
  • Tolerance analysis
  • Prior experience with liquid cooling of electronics systems including single and two-phase, as well as immersion cooling 

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • 4 to 6 years in a similar role or industry.

Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
