Summary
The Senior Manager, Hardware Design Engineering (TPL) leads cross-functional collaboration between design teams, customers, manufacturing, and project leadership to deliver robust, high-quality products. They integrate feedback from manufacturing, supply chain, reliability, and industrial design reviews to optimize hardware performance. Beyond initial design, they provide end-to-end technical support throughout the system's manufacturing lifecycle.
Electrical Focus: Directs the development of complex electrical systems and circuits. This includes overseeing the transition from research and schematic capture to rigorous simulation, validation, and system qualification.
Mechanical Focus: Manages the design and maintenance of mechanical systems and modules. They leverage 3D modeling and advanced simulations to validate concepts, ensuring all mechanical solutions meet stringent performance and reliability standards.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling
- Serve as a technical expert and leader to the team
- Engage with customers and suppliers on and product roadmaps and support
- Review and interpret customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contract
- Analyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend solutions
- Develop and lead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts.
- May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
- Research systems ideas and will draw up plans for these systems
- Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
- Create designs in line with Celesticas procedures, regulations and customer standards
- Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations
- Liaison with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
- Recommend system modifications
- Set yearly plans and goals for the department, give direction on expected performance, provide regular performance evaluations and ongoing feedback. Accountable for all department objectives and achieving agreed targets for key performance indicators.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Proficient in all compute hardware architectures including datacenter, telecommunication, enterprise and service provider. A strong understanding of compute components and protocols
- Experience in rack level system design
- Experience with AMD and Intel GPU, Broadcom DNX, Intel/AMO processor, hard disk, SSD, SAS/SATA, PCIE, CXL, Ax86
- Excellent interpersonal skills, well organized, self-motivated person, strong customer service, project, and analytical skills
- Experience in early product concepts and hardware architecture development through prototyping, evaluation of new designs and system architecture and debug
- Solid understanding of security elements
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to create and analyze architectural and product specifications enabling hardware product development
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
- 10+ years of HW Product Development
- 4+ years of managerial/leadership experience
- Highly self-motivated with a strong mutidisciplinary background
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Successful track record bringing products to market
Typical Education
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Preferred Degree but not required: Masters Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
