About this opprotunity:
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the Mechanical Design Engineering team in the development, integration, and validation of mechanical systems and components for high-performance computing and data-center rack solutions. The intern will gain hands-on experience working with mechanical design, CAD, prototyping, testing, documentation, and engineering problem-solving in a fast-paced product development environment.
Detailed Description
- Support mechanical engineers with design and development of components, assemblies, and systems for computing and data-center rack products.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models, drawings, and layouts under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Assist with prototype builds, mechanical assembly, fit and finish evaluations, and design verification activities.
- Support engineering testing and data collection, including dimensional measurements, force measurements, and basic mechanical performance testing.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical issues and identifying potential design improvements.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to documentation, engineering reports, and presentation materials.
- Work with cross-functional teams including electrical, thermal, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
- Support prototype and production build activities and help document issues, root causes, and corrective actions.
- Follow established engineering processes, design standards, and product development procedures.
- Perform other engineering assignments and projects as needed.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering field; students who have completed at least their sophomore year are preferred.
- Basic understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software
- Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and dimensions.
- Basic understanding of GD&T is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a willingness to learn.
- Hands-on mindset and interest in mechanical design, prototyping, and hardware development.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage assigned tasks with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Experience with engineering projects, laboratory work, robotics, Formula SAE, or other hands-on technical activities is a plus.
Physical Demands
- Ability to work in an engineering laboratory, manufacturing, and office environment.
- Ability to safely handle mechanical components, tools, fixtures, and prototypes.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach during prototype builds, testing, and equipment operation.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move mechanical components or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs., with appropriate assistance when required.
- Ability to use computers and CAD workstations for extended periods.
- Must be able to follow applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Salary
The range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including but not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate.
The hourly wage is determined by the years of study completed and is non-negotiable as per company policy.
