Summary

The Lead Engineer, Manufacturing Equipment is responsible for the development and/or sourcing of manufacturing equipment to support manufacturing operations goals. Scope of job may include design and development of equipment, qualification, deployment to manufacturing, improving performance and supporting programs to optimize efficiencies while maintaining a safe working environment.     

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Job Summary The Manufacturing Equipment Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and optimization of advanced manufacturing equipment, automated test systems, and thermal management infrastructure. This role ensures maximum uptime and performance for SMT lines, test automation, robotic assembly cells, and liquid cooling systems supporting L6 through L11 product builds.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Equipment Installation & Qualification: Lead the deployment, setup, and validation of new SMT equipment, automated test systems (ICT, BFT, System Test), robotic manufacturing cells, and high-capacity Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs).
    • Thermal System Management: Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and pressure/leak testing of liquid cooling infrastructure, cold plates, and manifold networks critical to high-density L11 rack-level integration.
    • Maintenance & Reliability: Develop and execute robust preventative maintenance (PM) and calibration schedules to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across electromechanical and fluidic systems.
    • Troubleshooting & Repair: Act as the primary technical escalation point for diagnosing and resolving complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, software, and liquid cooling loop faults.
    • NPI & Production Support: Partner with Process Engineering and NPI teams to ensure equipment readiness for transitioning products from L6 board assembly through L11 full system integration.
    • Vendor & Spare Parts Management: Maintain relationships with equipment manufacturers for technical support and manage critical spare parts inventory (including pumps, quick disconnects, valves, and coolant sensors) to prevent production delays.
    • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement machine upgrades, tooling enhancements, and automation improvements to optimize cycle times, yield, and operator safety.

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
