Summary

This role is for a dedicated Linux Systems Administrator responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky) in physical and virtual environments.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Install, configure, and manage Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky) in both physical and virtualized environments.
  • Perform regular patching and upgrades, ensuring security and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Implement and maintain system hardening policies (based on CIS/NIST benchmarks).
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents in coordination with other teams.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and security policies.
  • Work with Ansible automation platform to streamline deployments and configurations.
  • Participate in backup and recovery planning in collaboration with the Backup team.
  • Support middleware, application, and database teams with Linux-related requirements.
  • Prepare documentation, SOPs, and audit reports as required.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for Linux operations.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of RHEL or equivalent enterprise Linux distributions.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation (preferably Ansible).
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware and Hyper-V ).
  • Good knowledge of shell scripting (Bash, Python).
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, LDAP).
  • Exposure to ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and change management processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.

  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

Typical Experience

  • 5 - 6 years of hands-on Linux system administration experience.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
