Summary

The Lead Engineer, Test Manufacturing accepts, transfers, installs, improves and maintains automatic test equipment and test programs that are used for product testing and design verification. They also may support the test development of the test equipment and processes to ensure robust and high quality test solutions and final products are realized.

Job Description

  • Debugging and Troubleshooting: Investigate and diagnose defects in PCBA to identify issues such as shorts, opens, and other assembly or component-level faults using diagnostic tools and methods.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Perform detailed investigations to identify the root cause of issues and provide effective solutions to resolve them.
  • Testing and Verification: Conduct tests on PCBA using appropriate testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers to reproduce and verify issues.
  • Component Inspection: Inspect and verify components on PCBA for defects, correct placement, and proper soldering.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of debugging processes, findings, and solutions for reference and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers, customer,production teams, and other stakeholders to communicate findings and recommend improvements in the manufacturing process.
  • Process Improvement: Provide feedback to manufacturing and design teams on potential improvements to the PCBA process to enhance quality and reduce defects.
  • Mentorship: Share knowledge and expertise with junior engineers or technicians, and guide them in troubleshooting and debugging techniques.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple debug projects simultaneously, including prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Establish Clear Communication Channels: Designate a primary point of contact for both the customer and the engineer to streamline communication. Use multiple channels (email, chat, video calls, phone) to ensure timely and convenient exchanges of information.
  • Work with the customer to understand and precisely define the problem they are experiencing with the PCBA.
  • Determine the symptoms, frequency, and triggers of the issue, as well as any troubleshooting steps the customer has already attempted
  • Supervisor: To supervise technicians, supporting a team of technicians to efficiently diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to PCBA.
  • Track and Report on Team Metrics: Monitor and report on key metrics such as productivity, quality of work, and resolution time. Use data to identify trends and areas for improvement within the team.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
