Summary
HR Lead responsible for site(s)or business unit(s) with < 2,000 employees within a single country or across multiple countries. This job is the first Director level. Provides direct and indirect supervision to subordinate managers and employees performing highly specialized roles in a major function or division/department within medium to large sites. This includes long-term planning, objective setting, policy formation, interpretation and management while providing latitude and discretion to subordinates. Accountable for projects or programs on a multi-national or global basis. Work requires investigating and resolving a wide variety of highly unusual conditions that carry long-term implications. Requires developing new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific. Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Has overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees in a functional area. Makes final decisions on administrative and operational matters in area of responsibility to ensure achievement of objectives. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or company operations. Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers. Assigns objectives, reviews performance and approves employee compensation, coaches for improved performance. Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers. May represent the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Provides direction in executing Human Resources/Labour Relations activities including local negotiations, arbitration cases, execution of practices in support of business objectives and work force adjustments.
- Provides leadership for the execution of all policies and practices affecting employment or interruptions of the local contracts.
- Provides training, such as Union Avoidance, for Human Resources and Labour Relations personnel.
- Provides direction for the application of initiatives that may include: Affirmative Action, Benefits, Compensation, staffing, career development, performance management.
- Leads/coaches/develops team members for increased organizational effectiveness.
- Stays abreast with the business needs of the organization, understands the organizational ramifications, and develops the appropriate HR/LR solutions.
- Consults/Coaches Plant leaders on Human Resources and Labour Relations strategy. Participates in Mergers and Acquisitions activities as part of the HR/LR team.
- Pre-completion of M&A, contributes to the development of bargaining strategies, development of contract and actively serve on negotiating team.
- Post-completion, serves as lead manager of the local integration plan implementation, which encompasses all the Celestica LR/HR practices and time lines for completion.
- Serves as the point of contact for HR Service Team issues, questions and concerns involving the contract and integration process for the Central Region.
- Serves on and drives policy development teams.
- Identifies and eliminates barriers that impede profitability. Contributes to Public Relations releases relating to HR/LR issues.
- Participates in development of HR/LR strategic direction, including design accountability and governance procedures.
- Promotes and participate in planning and implementation of communication strategies.
- Develops and monitor the budget at both the corporate and local level.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of government regulations.
- Knowledge of Personnel and Employment laws.
- Strong organizational development, leadership development, facilitation, internal consulting skills.
- General knowledge of HRIS software
- Knowledge in Customer Satisfaction initiatives.
- General knowledge of World Class Manufacturing processes and Six Sigma strategies.
- Strong Project Management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal customers.
- Ability to evaluate multiple highly detailed tasks, determine priorities and organize work in a manner that allows for timely completion of projects.
- Ability to manage sensitive employee information in a confidential manner.
- Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in some or all of the following applications: Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Visio.
- Ability to effectively organize and motivate team members with a diverse group of skill sets.
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are generally performed in good working conditions. Occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
- Eleven to fourteen years relevant experience
Typical Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
