Summary
The Manager of Portfolio Manufacturing Risk & Technical Task Force is a strategic, cross-functional leadership position responsible for overseeing the full manufacturing risks across all active hardware programs, projects, and products. Rather than focusing on a single customer or dedicated product line, this leader operates as the central Manufacturing Risk Dashboard Owner, possessing an absolute, bird-eye view of the entire operational portfolio. The primary mission is to spot cross-program similarities, detect systemic patterns of risk, and establish comprehensive manufacturing standardization. Operating with broad systemic authority, this role is responsible for triggering macro-level process improvement projects and mobilizing technical Task Forces to intercept and resolve critical manufacturing or process excursions before they threaten high-volume production milestones.
Detailed Description
1. Portfolio Risk Dashboards & Pattern Recognition
- Dashboard Ownership: Architect, own, and maintain the master Manufacturing Risk Dashboard, providing corporate and operational leadership with real-time visibility into active risk thresholds
across all program portfolios. - Systemic Similarity Analysis: Analyze cross-program manufacturing variables to identify similarities, parallel failure modes, and recurring risk behaviors across distinct customer pipelines and product typologies.
- Predictive Metric Tracking: Aggregately track NUDD (New, Unique, Different, Difficult) vectors, golden pFMEAs, and Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) trends to identify systemic engineering blind spots
before physical prototyping commences.
2. Standardization & Macro Project Inception
- Process Standardization: Synthesize localized risk lessons into enterprise-wide manufacturing standards, ensuring uniform pFMEA controls, custom assembly rules, and test coverage parameters are mandated across all production networks.
- Macro Project Triggering: Initiate and champion wide-scale, structural process improvement or tooling optimization projects when dashboard data indicates a recurring risk pattern across multiple
independent product lines. - Lessons-Learned Loop: Ensure post-mortem analysis data is standardly infused back into early co-development frameworks run by Front-End, Back-End, and Test engineering teams.
3. Task Force Activation & Emergency Escalation
- Task Force Mobilization: Serve as the executive authority to instantly trigger and assemble high-urgency, cross-functional engineering Task Forces when critical, cross-cutting manufacturing risks
breach dashboard thresholds. - Crisis Command Coordination: Provide high-level oversight to active crisis teams, tracking micro-milestones and resolution trajectories in automated systems (e.g., Jira) without getting bogged
down in single-account administration. - Structured Containment: Enforce strict macro containment directives, including cross-portfolio material purges or floor alerts if a localized component anomaly poses an exposure risk to parallel
programs.
4. Cross-Functional Engineering Orchestration
- Front-End Matrix Interfacing: Partner with the Front-End Senior Manager to audit portfolio-wide SMT assembly variables, tracking recurring large-form-factor BGA warpage and reflow optimization trends.
- Back-End Assembly Alignment: Collaborate with the Back-End Senior Manager to assess systemic robotic cell defects, torque assembly constraints, and common rack-level cooling loop integration pain points.
- Test Infrastructure Interfacing: Engage with the Test Senior Manager to ensure portfolio-wide test diagnostic scripts (ICT/FCT/SLT) adapt to neutralize escape risks identified via dashboard tracking.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Analytical & Dashboard Fluency: Advanced proficiency designing or managing complex engineering metrics dashboards (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Jira Query Language, or parallel automated
manufacturing databases) to isolate systemic similarities and defect correlations. - Methodological Mastery: Deep foundational expertise in pFMEA structures, NUDD risk analysis frameworks, CTQ parameters, statistical process control (SPC), and structured crisis problem-solving methodologies (8D, Shainin, Kepner-Tregoe).
- Influence & Leadership Presence: Exceptional cross-functional communication and authority; proven ability to command cross-functional engineering cells, trigger corporate capital
expenditure/standardization projects, and articulate macro operational exposures to executive leadership boards.
Physical Demands
- Incumbent will perform the duties of this position in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require periodic sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- May require occasional travel.
Typical Experience
- Manufacturing Portfolio Experience: 6+ years of specialized experience in high-tech electronic manufacturing, operations data science, or NPI systems management, with a clear history of
tracking multi-program portfolios rather than isolated lines.
Typical Education
- Bachelor's or Masters degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quality Operations, or a related system-focused discipline.
- Educational requirements may vary by geography.
