Summary
The Continuous Improvement Internship provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to promote the graduate’s career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. Provide support and implementation of sustainable successful lean manufacturing methods that will accomplish operational excellence. Participate in kaizen events, project activities, and meet operational efficiency goals. Provide ideas to learn Kaizen tools to support a Lean Enterprise culture throughout the organization, focusing on waste elimination, cost reduction and process improvements.
REPORTS TO: Continuous Improvement Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be encouraged and expected to innovate and be creative in your problem solving and presentation of solutions
- Work with a mentor facilitate and cultivate a continuous improvement culture by developing awareness of lean manufacturing concepts and tools, to achieve or exceed safety, quality, cost and delivery goals.
- Develop your skills by learning from and working with collaborative team members
- Participate in engagement and discovery sessions between the continuous improvement team and employees from functional/business units in order to identify problems/gaps and process improvement opportunities
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes data related to business processes, procedures and controls including root cause analysis on identified challenges
- Assist in developing measurable standards at the start of a project, and then compare actual project results against these to support business objectives with financial performance.
- Documents core operational processes, creating detailed process maps and associated materials for basic current and future state processes
- Support the Tier system for the facility and track the CODE Celestica Operational Dashboard Elements

QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or similar degree program at an accredited institution, entering junior or senior year, or recent graduate
- Familiarity with Excel (pivot tables, pivot charts, functions, etc.) and Process Mapping tools – e.g. Visio and Microsoft suite or similar software
- Some knowledge of: standardization, continuous improvement, Lean Six Sigma, SMED, 5S, Visual Management, Value Stream Mapping, Continuous Flow/Cell Design
- Highly motivated individual that can work with minimal supervision.
- Able to build relationships, interact and influence others.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to manage time wisely, handle multiple, and conflicting priorities.
- Good communication skills: organized, speak, listen, and write well; hold presentations, facilitate meetings and trainings, and create reports
- Experience with data analysis and process mappings (beneficial)
