Summary

Responsible for modification, repair, overhaul, and basic troubleshooting of electronics/avionics equipment in accordance with FAA Part 145 and AbelConn Quality Standards.  Products are returned from airlines, distributors, airframers, and/or Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities.  This role will work under general supervision and should possess a working knowledge of basic Repair Operator equipment, such as soldering/desoldering stations, heat guns, and basic hand tools.

Job Duties

  • Familiar with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. 
  • Follows procedures and processes using various equipment in order to complete tasks. 
  • Interpret work instructions to analyze, troubleshoot and rework aircraft components in accordance with provided documentation including component maintenance manuals (CMM), Service Bulletins (SBs), schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.     
  • Reviews Repair Orders and accurately interprets customer specifications.
  • Disassembles mechanical and electrical units, replaces or adds components, subassemblies, cabling, and wiring and reassembles unit.

Follows all repair station manual and training manual work instructions along with general department procedures.  Will be responsible for the quality or work and meeting overall business goals and objectives for Safety, Quality and Delivery taking prompt action to address or escalate issues.  Keep facilities, materials and work area clean, organized and free of FOD, exercising care in their use.

Job Specifications - Required

  • A HS Diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of 5 years similar work experience in electronics manufacturing or service environment
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for 14 CFR 65 Subpart E: Repairman

To be eligible for a repairman certificate a person must -

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Have 18 months of practical experience in the procedures, practices, inspection methods, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in the maintenance duties of the specific job for which the person is to be employed and certificated
  • Will be required to pass IPC-A-610 and J-STD certification. Ability to identify problems in the assembly process and/or with assembly components and to further, address such problems.
  • Possesses knowledge of product quality and soldering specifications
  • Ability to set up, operate, and maintain assembly and hand soldering of equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of circuit board assembly process and product process flow.
  • Ability to manufacture / test products with best methods or procedures in situations not covered by standard processes, procedures and methods.
  • Has ability to communicate effectively with team members
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in the applications appropriate to the area e.g.: Word, Excel and documentation control systems.

Job Specifications - Preferred

  • Associate Degree in Electronic Technology
  • Previously employed as a FAA Certificated Repairman or uncertified Repair Technician in a FAA Certificated Repair Station
  • J-STD & IPC-A-610 certification

 

Physical Demands

Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, etc.

Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity, precise hand/eye coordination, using tools and equipment, as well as, moving and handling materials. 

Duties may require periodic heavy manual labor including lifting objects.

Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.

 

Visual exams are required pre-hire and biennial to confirm visual acuity of 20/20 with or without glasses along with passing a standard color vision exam.

 

Notes

This position is a DOT/FAA safety-sensitive position. Employees will be subject to the DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements in accordance with 49 CFR 40 and 14 CFR 120.  Employee must consent to a release of information from former DOT employers and to be subject to applicant tests, ongoing random tests, reasonable suspicion tests, accident or unsafe practice tests, and/ or follow-up tests, as applicable per the regulation.

 

The appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative drug test result.

 

The retention of the position will be contingent upon negative drug and alcohol test results, in accordance with the Company’s DOT/FAA Mandated Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy,

49 CFR 40, and 14 CFR 120.
