New Product Development Engineering Director, Medical Devices

Reporting to the VP of ATS Engineering Services, the core function of the role is to stand up, grow and lead a global engineering services team as an integral part of a global network. In addition, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise on all aspects of developed products throughout the product life cycle. The position is based in Maple Grove, Minnesota co-located with the Manufacturing team. The ideal candidate has a strong engineering background in Embedded Systems design with proven experience developing Class II medical electrical devices from ideation to market release and multiple years of experience leading and managing innovative engineering teams.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Interacts with Customers and Sales to provide proposals and engineering services quotes.
  • Leads Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Software teams to execute product development services and provide manufacturing the required drawings, schematics, and specifications to manufacture and support the team output.
  • Directs and coordinates the engineering work within their team to ensure that equipment design is delivered as per customer specification within the planned cost and timeline.
  • Manages the P&L of the engineering team, plans all resources (people, tools, time) to meet the project margin expectations while delivering to customer requirements.
  • Manages performance, hiring, and training of the team members
  • Ensures that the skill composition of the team meets the requirements of the current and future business
  • Prepares department budgets and accountable for the fulfillment of the financial plans

 
 
Education & Experience Requirements:

  • 10+ years work experience in product design for the Medical Electrical Device market
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, mechatronics and robotics is an advantage
  • Strong leadership skills, at least 8 years of experience in people / performance management
  • Good understanding of financial and accounting standards and practices relevant for engineering projects and P&L management
  • Experience in starting up and growing new product development teams supporting Medical Devices and products
  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Advanced Degree preferred
  • Design for Six Sigma Belt is an advantage
  • Proven experience developing Class II medical devices from ideation to market release
