Summary

The RF Test Engineer supports engineering, development and production activities as a key
technical resource of the RF test and assembly areas.


Primarily responsible for designing, implementing and documenting innovative RF production test solutions, including (but not limited to) test processes and procedures, test tooling, test equipment, and test documentation; this includes hands-on test validation (prototype/first article as a minimum), training of test technicians to perform RF tests and acting as cover for RF technician for RF test execution. Additional responsibilities include trouble-shooting as necessary to build/repair and deliver high quality.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Leads and supports Environmental Stress Screening (Vibration and Thermal Cycling).
  • Works on product quote and product release teams as necessary.
  • Tests/troubleshoots RF product assemblies as necessary to meet production/quality goals.
  • Interfaces closely with customers, sales and design personnel as required defining, developing and quoting new RF products, tooling, test requirements and inspection parameters along with resolving any related engineering or manufacturing issues.
  • Defines criteria, development outline and performs new equipment evaluations and justifications as determined using the Technology Roadmap.
  • Ensures that new and existing processes are safe, ergonomically friendly, and meet all State and Federal OSHA, and Environmental laws.
  • When called upon, provides technical leadership of diverse engineering disciplines, project planning, and provide technical solutions to customer requirements including, but not limited to, ITAR/EAR/EAR99 classifications, communication for customer configurations, and ultimate program execution following contract award ensuring 100% compliance with the Departments of State and Commerce.  Will also participate in ongoing team meetings to identify requirements, specifications, export classifications, timelines and customer expectations.
  • Defines and provides accurate and user-friendly process documentation including routers, work instructions, control plans, preventative maintenance and data records.
  • Provides day to day support to production to meet their on-time delivery, and ensures that all manufactured products meet or exceed applicable standards.
  • Mentors and trains personnel (particularly RF test technicians/operators) in the use of tools, work techniques, and skills required in accomplishing their work assignments. Keeps Production Supervisor informed of progress in assigned areas.
  • Leads initiatives to implement lean enterprise philosophies.
  • Travels as situations arise pertaining to the job, as deemed necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Experience in the development of manufacturing test strategies for RF products.
  • Experience in using standard test equipment for testing and characterization of RF products, such as Signal Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, etc.
  • Experience in RF product subsystem component testing (Antenna, LNA, PA, Mixers, etc)
  • Good understanding of key test and measurement concepts utilized in RF characterization of transmitters, receivers and transceivers, such as Phase & Amplitude, IP3, EVM, Gain Flatness, Sensitivity, Noise Figure, etc.
  • Experience in developing and implementing functional/product test plans and test cases
  • Experience in RF module level integration and testing automation test development
  • Experience in supporting manufacturing sites, where RF products are built and tested
  • Experience in developing test automation software/scripts using standard software languages, such as Python, Matlab, Test Stand, LabVIEW, C/C++, C#, etc.
  •  Some experience with functional testing of PCAs
  • Experience in developing cost-effective test stations for volume manufacturing
  • Experience in design and debugging of RF test fixtures
  • Experience in the use of CAD/CAM data.
  • Experience in developing new processes

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in RF testing role in a manufacturing environment

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering.
  • Educational Requirements may vary by Geography

Salary Expectations and Benefit Summary

The salary range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including by not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate. Salary Range: $71,370k-$106,176k Annually.
