Summary
As part of the Celestica Global Automation team, you are a seasoned Automation Engineer with experience managing an automation team with strong communication and project management skills. That individual will drive the identification, design and deployment of automated assembly solutions. To be successful, you bring strong hands on technical experience in machinery design concepts, robotic, PLC, vision systems and safety machinery and robotics systems for design, programming and troubleshooting. With this knowledge you are driving and influencing a team to create the requirements and specifications in order to build world-class equipment.
In this role, you will report to the Sr Director, Global Automation supporting sites in North America. This position is based in Monterrey, Mexico
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Lead a team of automation engineers.
- Create automation solutions that meet Celestica’s automation goals.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight in the definition of flexible and scalable automation solutions.
- Develop tools, methods and processes to facilitate automation efforts.
- Interface with customers as well as internal and external teams to provide site specific automation needs.
- Analyze all aspects of manufacturing process and determine need for automation.
- Architect the Design of automation concepts for different assembly processes.
- Prepare Request For Proposal/Quote for automation and support all phases of the Project Life Cycle.
- Accountable for the training/coaching/mentoring of regional and site engineering resources in automation.
- Support continuous improvement of existing automation systems.
- Support customer automation needs at NPI (new product introduction) and Product transfer.
- Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total automation system for specific processes.
- Be an automation advisor to regional engineering teams and customers.
- Collaborate with various automation experts to deliver innovative automation solutions to customers.
- Accountable for project management and on time, on budget project execution including leadership of;
- Communication with all project stakeholders during the entire project from concept to feasibility and from fabrication and test to production.
- Creation of documents for project phases: Charter, SOW, test plans, buy-off, acceptance and project closure.
- Regular project timeline and financial tracking and reporting
- Change management, Risk Management and communication
- Driving decisions and solving problems
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Able to analyze and determine the automation requirement and drive deliverables to commitment through global network of vendors and internal resources
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and procedures
- Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings safely
- Strong communicator.
- Experience with integrating 3rd party automation solutions as well as developing on automation equipment.
- Able to work in a fast-changing dynamic environments
- Able to apply Lean Manufacturing in all aspects of the automation architecture
- Highly detailed oriented.
- Project Management Experience; basic understanding of PMBOK
- Knowledge of Financial Terms and Calculations (ROI, Payback, etc.)
- Experience with the following automation systems and tools are important to be successful - robotic, vision inspection, material handling, ASRS, Conveyors, PLC, SCADA, screws/fasteners, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test
- Experience in Automated Turn Key Solutions; Previously involved in Design, Manufacturing, Installation, Start-Up & Commissioning Stages of the Project
- Experience troubleshooting PLC/Robots/HMI
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

- Expectation of travel to vendor/site locations is 10-20%. However, may be exceeded in critical times throughout project lifecycle.

Typical Experience
-
- Minimum 15 years of automation experience in manufacturing industry, preferably in assembly processes for electronic manufacturing industry.
- Minimum 5-7 years project management experience in manufacturing industry using tools such as; project and resource planning in MS Project and/or smartsheet.
Typical Education
- Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering / Robotics/ Mechatronics.
- PMP project management certification preferred.
