Summary
Performs routine tasks relating to the manufacture, assembly, repair or modification of products. Work is guided by detailed instructions, routines, and procedures. Tasks are routine, straightforward, and repetitive in nature. Decisions/actions generally affect own work. Works under direct Supervision and receives detailed instructions on all work assignments. Refers questions and problems to higher levels. Responsible for own time and effort only. Deals directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in routine exchanges of information; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, would be monitored.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Performs hand soldering, manual assembly, setup and operation of semiautomatic and/or automated assembly equipment and tools, operation of automated test equipment, operation of functional test units, inspection and minor repair of product.
- Uses visual aids, wiring lists, verbal and written instructions and other documentation to perform assembly work.
- Inspects component parts prior to assembly and rejects defective parts.
- Has foundation skills and is training on a range of skills associated with their primary work area.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Ability to learn and follow detailed assembly instructions.
- Ability to set up, operate, and maintain their own assembly and hand soldering equipment and tools.
- Ability to recognize problems in the assembly process or with assembly components and to report those problems to a Team Leader.
- Ability to learn established quality and quantity requirements. Ability to manually assemble components and produce high quality products in defined time periods.
- Ability to successfully complete required training to earn specific certifications as defined by site Operations.
- Basic manufacturing system knowledge.
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
- Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and precise hand/eye coordination, sitting and or standing in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
- Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects.
- Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
- Above demands are carried out within the company and statutory health and safety guidelines.
Typical Experience
- Zero to two years of relevant experience.
Typical Education
- High School or equivalent (basic numeracy and literacy).
