Summary

This position involves various levels of writing, testing and maintaining software solutions. Incumbents in the position are also involved in design, performance optimization and implementation of the operational systems on various platforms to ensure solutions are meeting needs of the end user.

Detailed Description

Incumbents apply in-depth knowledge in a specific area of specialization. Work is performed within established professional standards and practices. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors and a considerable degree of judgment. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the divisions’/departments’ operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Works under minimum Supervision. Seeks approval from others on matters outside of job/role scope. Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives and possible solutions. Unusual problems are solved jointly with manager and/or senior development leads. Work is reviewed for application of sound technical judgment. 

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Develops design specifications based on business requirements;
• Interacts with business community to understand business process and define how software tools can be leveraged to optimize the business process;
• Ensures team members are provided with timely and accurate project information and status updates;
• Resolves project related issues with customer;
• Reviews field trial plans, risk assessments, and test results. 

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

•    Excellent programming skills:

- Extensive Java development experience (Java EE 6/7);
- Proven experience in JSR 168 and JSR 286 (Java Portlet Specification) development and support;
- Proven experience leveraging WSRP 2.0 Specification;
- Experience with Relational Databases (Oracle DB, PL/SQL);
- Experience with build & development best-practices/tools (e.g., use of SVN, IDEs, etc.);
- Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies;
- Basic knowledge in installing/configuring/administering web servers (IIS, Apache, IBM http server) and application servers (IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, Tomcat) would be considered an asset;
•    Software design knowledge;
•    In-depth analytical skills;
•    Strong presentation skills;
•    Understanding of project management methodologies;
•    Good communication and interpersonal skills;
•    Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, disciplined, professional and a team player.

Physical Demands

•    Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
•    Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
•    Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
•    Occasional overnight travel is required.

Typical Experience

• 4 to 6 years in a similar role or industry.

• Bachelor's Degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
