Summary
The Lead Engineer, Electrical Design is responsible for system-level hardware design and development for networking and server products. The role focuses on architecture definition, schematic ownership, interface definition, and BOM management. The engineer will lead design reviews, collaborate with cross-functional/global teams, and provide technical leadership to ensure high-quality and timely delivery. #LI-LX1
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Define hardware architecture and critical interfaces for networking and server products.
- Own schematics, component selection, and BOM definition to meet performance, cost, and quality requirements.
- Drive cross-functional design reviews covering DFM, DFT, EMC, safety, and reliability.
- Support system bring-up, validation planning, and troubleshooting during EVT/DVT/PPVT phases.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers at the Penang site.
- Work with global teams and suppliers to resolve technical issues and achieve project milestones.
- Ensure adherence to engineering processes and continuously improve design quality.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Strong knowledge of system-level hardware design, including CPUs, memory subsystems, power delivery, and high-speed interfaces.
- Familiarity with EMC, safety standards, and board-level design constraints.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills at system bring-up stage.
- Ability to review and assess design risks, and propose system-level solutions.
- Effective communication and leadership skills for cross-site collaboration.
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
- 5–8 years of hardware development experience, with proven track record in system-level design.
- Experience in networking or server hardware preferred.
- Prior experience leading projects and mentoring engineers in a global environment is an advantage.
Typical Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
