Summary
This job is the Director-level position providing leadership, direct and indirect supervision to subordinate managers and employees performing highly specialized roles in the global Contracts Management organization. This includes long-term planning, objective setting, policy formation, interpretation and management while providing latitude and discretion to subordinates. Accountable for projects or programs on a multi-national or global basis. Work requires investigating and resolving a wide variety of highly unusual conditions that carry long-term implications. Requires developing new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific. Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Has overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees in a functional area. Makes final decisions on administrative and operational matters in area of responsibility to ensure achievement of objectives. Works independently, with little direction or guidance from supervisor. Erroneous decisions may have a serious impact on the overall success of company operations. Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area, possibly through several department managers. Assigns objectives, reviews performance, approves employee compensation, coaches for improved performance. Regularly interacts with executives and/or customers. Interactions often involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Provides contractual/legal direction and guidance to the Contracts Management, Sales & Marketing and Account Team(s), from pre-bid and contract negotiation through to the completion of the contract work.
- Responsible for integrating Celestica's Contracts Management and best practices across Celestica (subsidiaries and affiliates) world wide.
- Provides contractual direction, support and coordination to and between Celestica's global Contracts groups and the various other departments (e.g. ISS, NAOF, Proc., Ops) in executing and supporting the performance of customer contracts and other agreements (e.g. - licenses, sales reps).
- Requires the ability to evaluate and prioritize often divergent interests of Celestica and the customer.
- Makes key decisions with respect to balancing the need, in order to be customer-responsive, with that of protecting (risk management & profitability) Celesticas interests.
- Works with the customer account teams and legal counsel (Celestica & customer) and interprets legal advice; turning it into business advice and practice.
- Provides contractual direction and educational support to all participants in the contract process.
- Develops Corporate Contracts policy.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Significant experience and knowledge of legal concepts, complex commercial contract development, negotiation practices and contractual/business risk analysis.
- Very high level of ability to independently draft sophisticated contractual documents and mentor junior team members in doing the same.
- Ability to develop and implement new global processes in a team-based environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent negotiating skills, perception management skills and relationship management skills.
- Very good HR skills as well as employee/team management skills and abilities.
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
- Overnight travel may be required.
Typical Experience
- Eleven to Fourteen years of applicable experience, including the management of a contracts organization
Typical Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field (Law or Business), or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
