Summary

The Senior Staff Engineer, Hardware Design works with cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the electrical/mechanical system that they have designed.
The Senior Staff Engineer, Hardware Design (Electrical) develops new electrical systems/circuits for various applications.  Research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems, and capture them in schematics and system specifications. Test, simulate, validate and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed 
The Senior Staff Engineer, Hardware Design (Mechanical) develops new mechanical systems/modules and maintains existing designs. Research mechanical concepts and create system solutions using 3D modeling and simulation software. Complete calculations and test, validate, and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed.

Detailed Description

Job Title: Senior Optical Design engineer

  1. Work on system design for optical related products in switch platforms.
  2. Communicate with Customer, collect requirement and make product Spec.
  3. Key Optical component selection and link budget calculation.
  4. Define validation and testing of optical components in design stage.
  5. Work with factory and define key optical manufacturing tests and criteria.
  6. Support bring up and debug activities related to the optical component including electrical, optical, and firmware issues.
  7. Work closely with both development team and manufacture teams.



Requirements
1. Bachelor or Master in Science/Engineering (Optical, Physics, Laser, etc.) or experience in closely related technologies.
2. More than five years of experience in optical design, validation and testing; Prefer candidates with experience with network switches and testing network switches
3. Knowledge and experience with coherent optics and line systems preferred
4. Knowledge of key optical components including laser sources, DSPs, CDRs, TIAs, EDFA, ROADM,MUX/DEMUX etc.
5. Experience designing and building optical test stations and experience with DCAs, CDRs, OSAs, optical switches, VOAs, MUX/DEMUX, power meters, etc.
7. Experience in electrical and optical hardware debugging. Knowledge of potential failure modes for optical components.
8. Experience both in manufacturing and NPI design
9. Good communication skills in English

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
