Summary
This position is a first-line supervisory role on 3rd Shift (11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m) responsible for leading a team of approximately 10–25 employees and typically reports to a second-level manager. The role provides direct oversight of employees performing routine operational activities within a specific function or work group. Responsibilities include contributing to annual objectives and plans, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, and supporting the development and implementation of functional procedures.
Work is performed within established standards, policies, and operational practices. The supervisor receives assignments in the form of goals and priorities and utilizes established processes to achieve departmental objectives. Key responsibilities include managing schedules, executing budget-related activities, monitoring performance, and enforcing policies and procedures. Decisions made in this role can significantly impact operational efficiency, production schedules, quality standards, and departmental performance targets.
The supervisor provides day-to-day leadership by assigning work, monitoring progress, and ensuring team members achieve established goals using approved guidelines and procedures. The role participates in recruitment activities, including interviewing and hiring, conducts performance evaluations, recommends compensation adjustments, and initiates disciplinary actions when required. Additional responsibilities include approving overtime and managing employee work schedules. Regular interaction occurs with team members, peers, and, where applicable, external contacts under established communication guidelines.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Receives daily production schedules from the planning function and coordinates the receipt of materials for manufacturing, modification, or repair activities through logistics.
- Aligns personnel, equipment, materials, and other operational resources to ensure the timely production of high-quality products while maintaining budget expectations.
- Identifies production constraints and implements corrective actions to eliminate bottlenecks and improve workflow efficiency.
- Manages controllable operating expenses, including scrap, consumables, and other production-related costs.
- Analyzes production limitations and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes and operational performance.
- Oversees team performance, engagement, and development to ensure quality, productivity, and efficiency objectives are consistently achieved.
- Ensures return-to-work interviews and first-level disciplinary procedures are conducted promptly, fairly, and professionally.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production methods, and associated tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of business operations and the impact of decisions on customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery, and overall profitability (WOR/MOR/RCC).
- Ability to coordinate multiple resources effectively to achieve production, quality, and output targets.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to train, motivate, develop, and manage diverse teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in common business software applications
- General Lean knowledge
- Daily reporting required
- Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action
Physical Demands
- Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Responsibilities may require extended periods of visual concentration while working with computer systems, reports, and detailed operational data.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- All duties are performed in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Typical Experience
- Four to six years of relevant manufacturing, production, & supervisory experience.
Typical Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
