Primary focus on managing execution of the design SOW and providing all design deliverables – including a design approved for production launch – within profit and schedule commitments. Primary customer interface on design status, activity, and issues and change management. May also include Manufacturing Launch management support on smaller less complex programs. Programs are typically of moderate complexity, scope, and/or schedule.


Detailed Description:

First full level of specialization; applies expertise in more than one area of specialization. Work is performed within established professional standards, established policy, and/or established objectives. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Incumbents are accountable for quality of work delivered by external suppliers as applicable. May influence others outside of team to ensure goals are met and resolves conflicts in an effective manner. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the site’s/major function's operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Receives guidance primarily on unique, unusual, or controversial problems or questions. May lead a work group or project team consisting of one or more support staff and/or tech/professional staff with some coaching from own supervisor, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialty. Seeks out new avenues for building internal and external relationships; maintains contacts with existing relationships.


Performs following tasks with guidance on certain unique or controversial situations. Escalation support through functional management. Relies on design knowledge for judgment on team performance, estimation, and quality.


Program Management – Serves as the program/project interface between customer and Celestica internal groups, to coordinate development activities. Responsibilities include providing project definition and metrics, budget development and management, schedule management, task prioritization, contingency planning and project and program reviews. Ensures timely and complete execution of the project plan and contract execution to meet the Customer’s requirements and schedule. Communicates progress and results to senior management and customers. Performs design risk assessment and management. Develops plans to meet commitments and schedules for customers and develops action plans to correct out-of-plan conditions. Drives issues/problems to resolution or escalates within function as appropriate. Manages project level P&L and revenue/expense cash flows, and provides regular reporting of Project financial and operational. Organizes and facilitates regular team meetings to review project status, identify issues/problems and coordinates design readiness reviews. Manages design methodology within the Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) framework. Drive PLM exceptions back through technical team and functional management.


Customer Satisfaction – Communicates regularly with customers to provide information, escalate issues and create and enhance a positive working relationship and ensure satisfaction. Receives and resolves customer issues. Solicits performance feedback and communicates information to internal teams and departments relative to customer status. Acts as a customer advocate driving prioritization of projects and responses to problems/issues and keep them informed of project status and plans to resolve problems or issues. Hosts regular (as needed) program tracking meetings with the customer to ensure ongoing communication and up-to-date progress/status reporting occurs. Interfaces with customers as necessary to, prioritize activities, communicate product status, resolve key issues and manage scope creep. Excellent customer contact, negotiation and problem resolution skills.


Business Development – Works with sales, business development, finance and customer to understand the customer’s technical requirements and business needs and develop proposals to meet those needs. Assists in examination of request-for-quote content and translates customer requirements into a Technical Response Summary, provides time estimates, documents and develops preliminary program timeline for customer quote. Oversees and signs off on technical content included in proposals and assures that proposals accurately reflect customer requirements for design, costs and performance. Delivers presentations and communicates capabilities to potential customers. Interfaces with existing and potential customers. Plans and approves projects requiring considerable investment of resources. Directs technical content of business proposals. Works with customer to build confidence in company proposal and technical ability.


Launch Management - Serves as the program/project interface between customer and Celestica internal groups, to coordinate manufacturing launch activities up to successful MRR sign-off. These would include interfaces with NPI, Test Development and Deployment, Manufacturing, Production Sourcing and Delivery, and Repair among others. Management relies on functional co-ordination within each group. Manages process checkpoint for acceptable design hand-off and NPI readiness Management of top level schedule milestones and management of inter-dependencies. Manages Launch risk assessment and mitigation strategies among various groups. Visibility and guidance on overall opportunity profitability.



  • Knowledge of the product design and design processes.

  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process, schedules and scheduling requirements.

  • Knowledge of supply chain management processes, particularly around sourcing and tooling strategies.

  • Knowledge of the business issues associated with services and manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of product pricing, contracts and contract negotiations, and their impact to overall profitability

  • Understanding of business risks and price make up ( Value add and Materials )

  • Excellent customer contact, negotiation and problem resolution skills.

  • Good presentation, database management and computer skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple, detailed projects to a successful end while working under tight time deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.

  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse group of employees to achieve high production within tight time deadlines.

  • PMI certification desirable.


Physical Demands:

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.

  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

  • Above demands are carried out within the local existing Health and Safety guidelines


Typical Experience:

  • Eight plus years’ relevant experience.


Typical Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
