Lead Engineer, Manufacturing Process

Summary

The Lead Engineer, Manufacturing Process is responsible for designing, developing, deploying and optimizing processes for manufacturing to achieve quality, cost and delivery goals for Celestica and its customers' products.

Detailed Description

The ideal candidate will perform tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Serves as the Manufacturing Engineering interface for new product launches/introductions, typically collaborating with design engineering or customers.
• Creates, implements and maintains methods, sequences and processes in the manufacture or parts, components, and assemblies.
• Designs manufacturing line layouts guided by Lean principles.
• Identifies process problems that lead to throughput or quality issues, evaluates root cause, and implements solutions to stabilize and/or improve processes.
• Creates product assembly work instructions and checklists.
• Participates in the selection of new manufacturing equipment.
• Gathers, understands and converts customer specifications and data into usable manufacturing information.
• Creates and evaluates metrics to drive the quality improvement process.
• Develops test processes, test fixtures and specialized tools to automate testing of products.
• Drives continuous improvement activities for existing manufacturing lines.
• Translates customer requirements into factory activities; creates and documents associated factory support activities needed for product manufacturing and testing.
• Defines process problems that lead to throughput or quality issues, evaluates cause of problem, implements solutions to stabilize processes, evaluates results

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Experience with manufacturing of complex industrial equipment
• Knowledge of industry and quality standards (eg. IPC-620, ISO-9001).
• Experience utilizing Lean methodologies and tools.
• Excellent customer relations and problem resolution skills.
• Ability to design tests, evaluate results and recommend solutions to improve processes used in the assembly of electromechanical assemblies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and coordinate changing deadlines.
• Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.
• Works autonomously under minimum supervision; seeks approval from others on matters outside of job/role scope.  
• Ability to utilize AutoDesk Inventor or Solidworks to create models and parts for manufacturing jigs and fixtures desired.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment used in the assembly and troubleshooting of electromechanical assemblies.
• Knowledge of vacuum systems and leak checking methods are preferred.
• Knowledge of statistical process control methods and techniques desired.

Physical Demands

• Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment and in a cleanroom manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, chemicals, operating machinery, etc.
• Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
• Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, etc.) are frequently required.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

• 3 to 5 years of related experience in similar job roles

Typical Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
