Manufacturing Process Engineer-Heavy Equipment (Remote)

Summary

The Manufacturing Process Engineer – Heavy Equipment  position provides key capabilities to successfully manufacture large, heavy, high-voltage equipment. The role will be engaged in the lifecycle of the product by first providing DFM/DFA feedback to the design team, then facilitating production launch activities by designing the manufacturing process, and finally enabling scalable and sustainable manufacturing.

Detailed Description

The person in this role will support manufacturing process design, industrialization, and continuous improvement across heavy equipment and high voltage production environments. They will help establish scalable, safe, and efficient manufacturing methods for both high-weight/low-volume and modular/scalable production lines.

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods using Lean Manufacturing principles, value stream mapping, and Six Sigma methodologies.

• Design line layouts, workstations, and material flows for production lines.

• Specify, procure, and commission manufacturing equipment, including heavy-duty cranes, torque tools, automated guided vehicles, and battery testing equipment.

• Design or source specialized jigs, fixtures, and lifting beams for the safe handling and precise assembly of heavy, high-voltage equipment.

• Integrate automation and smart factory technologies, including assembly tools with data logging and automated end-of-line testing.

• Lead PFMEA activities to identify and mitigate manufacturing risks.

• Develop and implement safety and quality protocols focused on high-voltage safety, battery handling, and heavy structural rigging.

• Create and maintain standard operating procedures, manufacturing routings, and work instructions.

• Collaborate with Design Engineering to ensure new product introductions are optimized for efficient, scalable, and safe manufacturing.

• Partner with Quality Engineering to root-cause production defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.

• Provide DFM/DFA feedback to the product design team.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Enabling Competencies

• Project management and process ownership in medium-to-high complexity manufacturing environments.

• Cross-functional collaboration with Design Engineering and Quality Engineering teams.

• Strong grounding in quality and continuous improvement methods, including PFMEA, 8D, 5 Whys, and CAPA.

• Safety leadership in heavy industrial and high-voltage manufacturing environments.

Technical Competencies

• Strong understanding of large equipment mechanical and electrical assembly.

• Familiarity with electrical assembly, wiring harness routing, and high-voltage safety environments.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Catia, and manufacturing simulation/layout tools such as AutoCAD.

• Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kanban, and root-cause analysis.

• Experience with lithium-ion battery integration, BESS containerization, or EV powertrains is preferred.

• Certifications in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing are preferred.

• Experience with MES and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle is preferred.

Physical Demands

• Duties of this position are performed in office and manufacturing environments. The role requires adherence to strict safety protocols when supporting heavy equipment assembly, rigging activities, battery handling, and high-voltage manufacturing operations.

  International travel is required (25%-50%).

Salary Range: $107,000-$147,000 Annually.

Typical Experience

• 5–7+ years of experience in a medium-to-high complexity manufacturing environment such as heavy equipment, automotive, aerospace, or renewables.

Typical Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
