Summary
The Advisor, Materials Costing and Awards applies expertise for specific Commodity Category(s). Incumbents may lead a work group and/or provide advice and guidance in their area of specialty. They manage Supplier Quote Process & work on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. As an advisor, they are accountable for the quality of work delivered by external suppliers as applicable. Decision-making authority and autonomy is given to deliver on goals of the team. Advisors interface with senior managers on issues related to the area of expertise. There is a possibility that they may determine new methods and procedures
Detailed Description
- Manages supplier RFQ process for specific Commodity group(s) across multiple projects to ensure all costing due dates are achieved.
- Lead component level supplier negotiations to establish competitive cost solutions.
- Drive supplier growth scorecard performance improvement.
- Commodity expertise – depth knowledge of key commodity price drivers & sensitivities, performs general pricing & supply market trend analytics.
- Supplier expertise - understands key suppliers and develops effective supplier relationships
- Develop & execute commodity strategy including competitive benchmarking, delivering a commodity strategy enabling the overall program strategy, supplier analysis, development & selection.
- Able to identify and justify alternate component solutions.
- Able to provide competitive cost estimate for complex parts (Bid only)
- Provides insight and recommendations to support proposed solutions to key stakeholders.
- Updates material prices database, analyzes components for competitiveness and customer compliance, review with management.
- Drives continuous improvement initiatives
- Provides supervision to semi-skilled and entry level professional employees
- Coaches for improved performance and disciplines as necessary
- Act as primary contact for site or customer support.
- Ability to build drawing packages required for quoting.
- Generate material cost BOM used for bidding and presentation to management.
- Lead projects related to cost down opportunities and track cost savings.
- Provide supplier training on internal and customer specifications.
- Communicate overall status according to an agreed schedule to all stakeholders
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Strong background and knowledge in interpreting engineering drawings, customer specs, internal specs.
- Ability to interpret customer specs and drawings for critical features.
- Background in part manufacturability processes (machined, sheet metal, frames, electrical assemblies, plastics).
- Advanced skills in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of excel (Vlookup, pivot table, graphs, formulas).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes of all parts and assemblies, procedures and production equipment.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
- Due to global responsibilities late or early meeting attendances will be required.
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required
- May require up to 25% domestic and or international travel.
Typical Experience
- 6-10 years of experience in purchasing, commodity or engineering environment
- Specialisation in Commodity Management (Electronics or Build To Print) required
- Background in supplier qualification (SQE) is a plus.
- Prior negotiation skill is a plus.
Typical Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field (Engineering), or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Location: This is a remote position, with travel as necessary.
