Summary

The Engineering Lab Technician we are looking for is a service-oriented and self-motivated professional. While collaborating with team members across all departments, your knowledge of mechanical assembly, piping, and electronics cooling will enable the team to accomplish broad product development test objectives. Metal fabrication or thermal technician capabilities are desired but not required.

Detailed Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Electromechanical assembly of prototypes at the PCBA, chassis, and rack level
  • Mount Liquid cold plates with thermal interface material
  • Operate mechanical fabrication systems such as 3D printer, laser cutter, drill press, etc.
  • Procure mechanical and thermal lab equipment and services and maintain laboratory stock of parts and supplies
  • Execute tests analyze results
  • Support the debug of products, sub-systems and test fixtures
  • Build prototype and final system enclosures
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Support the build and test of automated test equipment and peripherals
  • Execute assembly of cooling systems related to electronics enclosures and racks including air-cooled heat sinks, thermal interface materials, and liquid cooling systems
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, driven, independent, and able to work with minimum supervision

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record working within a laboratory environment
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical assembly of electronics products from PCBA to rack level
  • Experience with integration of piping and plumbing for large-volume liquid-cooled electronics systems highly desired
  • Proper operation and knowledge of measurement and inspection tools including calipers, feeler gages, and CMMs desired
  • Experience with fabrication of sheet metal and CNC parts, as well as operation of polymer- based 3D printers, is highly desired but not required. Ability to operate a multi-axis mill is highly beneficial
  • Knowledge of thermal test practices, such as taking data until thermal steady state occurs.
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Experience with process and procedure documentation
  • Ability to manage materials from ordering, stocking, usage, and disposition is key

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.

  • Duties may require periodic sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

  • There will be a need on occasion to lift heavy objects.

Typical Experience

  • 7+ years of hands-on electronics assembly experience in an engineering development environment

Typical Education

  • College Diploma in Electronics Technology or equivalent
