If so, we would like you to join our team as we continue our successful launches of exciting Microsoft hardware products such as Surface, Xbox, and Hololens.

Our team collaborates with hardware development and manufacturing teams early in the development cycle to identify and resolve design risks which may impact impede product launches. Our engagement continues through engineering builds to characterize manufacturing defects and drive improvements in design, material, and process to maximize the initial launch yield.  As the product development lifecycle shifts to mass production, we own identifying and implementing improvements in manufacturing processes and repair methods in order to achieve manufacturing yield, volume, and cost metrics.

As a Lead Product Engineer, you will apply engineering theory, circuit analysis, and root cause analysis methods to isolate sources of failure, define experiments to validate theory of failure, identify and lead implementation of corrective actions with partner teams. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior product engineers in failure analysis and manufacturing best practices. Regular travel to Asia will be required to accomplish critical objectives and guide contract manufacturing activities.

Detailed Description

Required Qualifications and Capabilities:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical/Computer Engineering is highly desired.  Applicants having other degrees and commensurate experience in electronics development and/or manufacturing will be considered.
  • 8+ years in an engineering role, directly contributing to the design or manufacture of complex products. Experience with high-volume consumer electronics is strongly desired.
  • Collaborates effectively in a cross-functional teams to meet time, cost, and performance-related objectives.
  • Understands fundamental concepts of PC, mobile phone, or similar complex electronics system design and operation, including the operation of related subsystems, interfaces, and components.
  • Applies engineering theory, statistical methods, circuit/signal/material analysis, and interpretation of manufacturing test logs and measurements to isolate contributing factors driving production defects.
  • Utilizes standard test equipment to characterize device, component, and material performance, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, microscopes, thermal imaging, gauges, calipers, etc 
  • Leverages robust Root Cause/Corrective Action and Quality Management Tools to guide actions, summarize findings, and achieve improvement results, including concepts of Six Sigma, 5C, 8D, and similar.  
  • Self-manages daily and long-term activities to meet program objectives with minimal management guidance, including prioritizing activities and leading outcomes of junior engineers and a manufacturing partner engineering support team.
  • Communication skills are essential - candidate must express technical concepts in verbal and written forms to peers and management

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
