Summary

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled software product architect role to lead the technical vision for our global digital factory product suite. You will be responsible for designing resilient, cloud-native architectures that support localized requirements (Electronics, Capital Equipment, Aerospace & Defense, HealthTech, Industrial for both manufacturing and repair&services businesses) while maintaining a unified global core. You will collaborate with IT & Business leader stakeholders, Product Management, and Software Engineering leads across multiple time zones to transform market needs into scalable technical blueprints.

This is a permanent, strategic position. Following the successful delivery of the modernization project, you will take ownership of our global product architecture, ensuring our ecosystem remains at the cutting edge and scaling these solutions across markets.

Detailed Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Architectural Strategy & Governance

  • Global Scalability: Design and oversee the implementation of multi-region, distributed systems that ensure high availability and performance across the globe.

  • Standardization: Define "The Way We Build"—establishing architectural patterns, API standards, and security protocols that engineering teams must follow globally.

  • Modernization: Lead the transition from legacy monoliths to modern, agentic, or microservices-based architectures where appropriate.

2. Product-Technology Alignment

  • Roadmap Influence: Work with Global Product Heads to assess the technical feasibility of new features and provide "cost-to-build" vs. "buy" analyses.

  • Market Localization: Architect systems that handle complex internationalization and localization requirements, including regional data residency laws and currency/tax complexities.

3. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Technical Mentorship: Serve as the "Architect of Architects," mentoring regional leads and fostering a culture of technical excellence.

  • Vendor Management: Evaluate and select third-party platforms and AI/ML integrations that align with the long-term product vision.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate directly with factory floor managers and business leads to document "as-is" processes and define "to-be" requirements.

  • Communication: Distill complex technical trade-offs into business-impact narratives for non-technical executive stakeholders.

4. Understand Celestica’s Environment

  • Legacy Discovery: Deep-dive into existing on-premise/On-cloud applications (Visual Basic 6.0, Oracle DB, .Net Core, AzureApp Services, AzureSQL, PostgresDB) and complex local applications, VB/Java scripts understand its rules and data dependencies.

  • Architectural Design: Design a comprehensive, cloud-native or on premises target architecture leveraging mainly the Microsoft Stack (Azure Functions, Logic Apps, SQL, .NET 8+, Power Platform). But could expand to other cloud technologies.

  • Migration Roadmap: Develop a phased project plan that addresses data migration, risk mitigation, and parallel running strategies to ensure zero disruption to manufacturing.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Required Technical Skills

  • Technical writer: Document the system system architecture, its functionalities, business logics

  • Modern Stack: Expert-level experience in C# / .NET, Azure Cloud Services (App Services, Service Bus, Data Factory), and SQL Server.

  • Legacy Fluency: Proven ability to read and interpret VB6 code and Excel VBA/Macros. Experience querying and migrating from IBM DB2 is a good plus

  • Data Modeling: Strong experience in relational database design and transitioning from legacy schemas to modernized, performance-optimized cloud data models.

  • DevOps: Familiarity with Azure DevOps for CI/CD, version control, and project tracking.

Professional Experience

  • Experience: 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a principal or architectural leadership role for a global SaaS product.

  • Technical Depth: Mastery of cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP), event-driven architectures, and modern data modeling.

  • Systems Design: Proven track record of designing systems that handle millions of concurrent users across different geographic regions.

  • Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of global regulatory landscapes, including GDPR (Europe), CCPA (USA), and PIPL (China).

  • Experience in Business Process Re-engineering (BPR)—not just moving code to the cloud, but improving the process itself.

  • Strong project management background (Agile/Scrum) with the ability to build and manage a multi-quarter migration timeline.

  • Manufacturing Background: Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) or Digital Factory integration is a significant plus.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional "architectural diplomacy"—the ability to influence teams you do not directly manage.

  • The "Translator" Ability: Can speak "factory" with shop-floor operators and "strategy" with executive stakeholders.

  • Analytical Rigor: A passion for deconstructing "spaghetti code" to find the underlying business value.

Preferred Attributes

  • AI/ML Integration: Experience architecting "AI-first" features or managing the infrastructure for large-scale LLM deployments.

  • Global Mindset: Experience working in a distributed, "remote-first" environment across varying cultures and time zones.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Architectural Debt: Reduction in legacy technical debt and system complexity.

  • Time-to-Market: Improvement in the speed from product concept to global deployment.

  • System Reliability: Global uptime and latency metrics meeting or exceeding SLAs.

  • Cost Efficiency: Optimization of global cloud spend relative to product growth.

  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
