Summary
The Supply Chain Material Planner plays a pivotal role in maintaining uninterrupted production for complex products by managing critical material supply lines and executing seamless Bill of Materials (BOM) transitions.
Operating in a high-pressure environment, this individual serves as the central hub connecting Production, Engineering, Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM), Finance, and External Customers. The ideal candidate excels in crisis resolution, accurate ERP system maintenance, cross-functional collaboration, resolving supply shortages, managing risk buys, and mitigating quality issues.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Critical Material Escalation Management: Manage end-to-end recovery for critical components and chassis. This includes coordinating rework, returns (RMA), and expediting pick-ups with suppliers to minimize production downtime.
- Engineering Change (EC) & BOM Control: Execute seamless BOM transitions by managing EC cut-in dates in SAP and NGPLM. Proactively resolve demand calling issues and temporary change order (TCO) requests to ensure the system accurately reflects material requirements.
- Risk Buy & Procurement Coordination: Manage alternate sourcing strategies, including risk builds, to mitigate supply chain disruptions. Ensure procurement compliance by coordinating with finance to track PPV (Purchase Price Variance) losses, claim IDs, and obtaining necessary management approvals for absorbed costs.
- Supply & Capacity Planning: Monitor CTB (Clear-to-Build) and CTS (Clear-to-Ship) statuses for critical batches. Collaborate with planners to pull in supply commitments where demand upside is identified.
- Stakeholder & Customer Liaison: Communicate status updates effectively to both internal management and key customers (e.g., Keysight) regarding supply risks, FA (First Article) report status, and delivery schedules.
- Supplier Performance Monitoring: Collaborate with SQE (Supplier Quality Engineering) to address recurring quality issues (e.g., defects in machining/plating) and ensure suppliers adhere to delivery commitments.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
Technical Competencies:
- ERP Proficiency: Advanced expertise in SAP (specifically material management, demand planning, and MRP) and PLM (Enovia/NGPLM) is essential.
- Supply Chain Analytics: Proven ability to manage large datasets (Excel) to summarize demand, inventory delta, and cost variances.
- Change Management: Deep understanding of Engineering Change (EC) implementation, BOM structure, and TCO/ECO workflows.
Desired Soft Skills:
- Crisis Management: Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, reactive environment where production line stoppages must be prevented.
- Communication: High clarity in written reporting, especially when escalating issues to management or coordinating urgent customer requirements.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in maintaining system data to ensure no "double demand" or incorrect part calling occurs.
Typical Experience & Education
- Experience: 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in material planning
- Industry Background: Previous experience working within a Contract Manufacturing (EMS/CM) environment is a strong advantage.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Supply Chain, Business, Engineering), or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
