Detailed Description:
Entry level during which an employee receives both functional and organizational training under close supervision. Incumbents carry out assignments within well-defined practices, procedures and policies. Works independently on details of assignments, and has limited decision-making authority; most decisions are made or guided by the immediate supervisor. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the department's/division’s goals. Works under close Supervision and requires direction on how assignments are to be executed; begins to put forward ideas on how work assignments are completed. Establishes cooperative relationships to work effectively with colleagues; supports others and participates as a team member, and takes responsibility for own work commitments. Interacts directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in routine exchanges of information; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, would be monitored.

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

Develops new or modifies and improves existing designs or techniques related to systems, products, devices, components, processes, methods, equipment, facilities or production within a specific discipline. Designs, lays out, and implements production systems to ensure maximum utilization of critical resources, maximum throughput, minimum cost and capacity growth; involves integrating equipment, people, material flow systems, and information systems. Designs, develops and implements IT applications for business and manufacturing processesWill also provide feedback to other engineering groups and possibly the customer to ensure smooth production of products. Solves assigned technical product, process, component, or material problems affecting efficient operation and/or manufacture of products within a specific area of responsibility in training or under direction/guidance of more experienced engineers.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:
  • Engineering Foundation Competencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of the design process for systems and printed circuit boards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of systems and printed circuit board manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of testing software, processes and methodologies and failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of computer programming and ability to use applications specific to this position, such as C++, ECAD, MCAD, etc.
  • Knowledge of IT platforms and database design.
  • Knowledge of some or all of the following: UNIX, NT, database management system.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
  • Knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
  • Knowledge of industry and quality standards for incoming materials.
  • Ability to evaluate materials, gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.
    Physical Demands:
  • Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
    Typical Experience:
    Zero to two years’ relevant experience.
    Typical Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Educational requirements may vary by geography.
