Summary

The Thermal Test Engineer is responsible for performing thermal test validation for electronic products across the product life cycle. This involves establishing the thermal test environment, executing tests, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues, and developing comprehensive test plans and reports.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Perform thermal test validation for electronic products, including server, storage, and switch products.
  • Establish the thermal test environment and execute defined tests, including wind tunnel and temperature testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Design, Manufacturing, Reliability) to diagnose and resolve thermal performance issues.
  • Develop, maintain, and document comprehensive thermal test plans and final reports.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Refer to technical skills below:

  • Familiarity with thermal measurement technologies and tools, such as temperature data loggers, IR cameras, and wind tunnels.
  • Proficiency in fluid dynamics and heat transfer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of thermal components, including heat sinks, TIM (Thermal Interface Materials), and air movers.
  • Hands-on experience in the validation testing of various fan speed control algorithms and over-temperature protection mechanisms.
  • Strong analytical skills for thermal test data analysis and report generation.
  • Experience with server, storage, or switch products is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • 7 years of related experience in thermal design and test validation for electronic products.

Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
