The Tax Manager will support the Global Taxation group in tax compliance, provision, forecasting, planning, audit defense and administration matters.
The Global Taxation group is transitioning to a model where each member of the team would be responsible for all tax matters of a group of subsidiaries. An elaborate model has been developed for team members to follow. We also facilitate in the development of foreign tax and all areas of taxation, as well as the underlying relevant accounting principles that drive tax results. Senior management will mentor team members in the development of the skill of asking the right questions when solving problems.
Detailed Description
This position is a Tax Specialist role at Celestica’s global headquarters in Toronto. In addition to income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax compliance and provision responsibilities, work will also include being involved in global tax matters of diverse scope where analysis requires evaluation of business and taxation aspects on a multi-national or global basis. Incumbents are accountable for delivering high quality work to ensure site’s / major function’s operations, schedules, and performance goals are met.
Tasks performed include but not limited to, the following:
- Prepare IFRS and/or US GAAP tax provisions and forecasts of global sites located in Asia, Europe and Americas
- Prepare income tax and indirect tax returns, information returns, and reports \
- Assist in transfer pricing analyses and computations, country-by-country reporting and reviewing transfer pricing reports
- Assist in ensuring that new developments in tax are conveyed to the appropriate people in the company and that processes are developed to ensure that the company is in compliance with laws and regulations
- Assist in gathering or preparing documentation, and responding to queries from internal/external/government auditors
- Support global tax planning and process improvement initiatives, as well as other tax related matters on an ad hoc basis
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Accounting designation or MBA preferred
- 2-4 years of relevant experience with a major accounting firm or multinational organization
- Completed or near completion of CPA designation, or completion of MTax
- Knowledge of corporate income taxation and accounting for income taxes under IFRS and/or US GAAP;
- Experience in transfer pricing is a strong asset
- Knowledge of indirect tax is an asset
- Team player with good communication, negotiation and presentation skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers;
- Ability to interface with many international sites to establish strong working relationships and cooperation
- Strong knowledge of basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and use multiple applications specific to this department is an asset (SAP, Longview, Tax Prep, OneSource Workflow Manager and Dataflow).
- Logic skills to utilize computer applications to develop complex tax models is an asset.
- Ability to evaluate, analyze, prioritize work under tight timelines, and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion
Physical Demands
- Duties of this position are performed in a hybrid office environment (2 days in the office, rest of the week remote)
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data
- Repetitive manual movements are frequently required (e.g. data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc)
