Summary

Detailed Description

• Inspects electrical and mechanical components received from manufacturing operations to ensure conformance with engineering product/component specifications
• Uses inspection equipment such as optical comparators, pin gauges, coordinate measuring machines, surface plates, and various hand tools to verify parts meet dimensional specs and tolerances
• Ensures that the processes are carried out and comply with the specifications required by customers and that it complies with the local requirements of the organization and the requirements of MPS (Manufacturing Process Standards)
• Ensures that the specifications and the acceptance criteria of the products by the operational staff are known and respected; ensures that operators comply with product quality inspection procedures in accordance with customer requirements
• Provides support in order to optimize processes, identifies and initiates opportunities to reduce costs
• Assesses and updates working instructions for specific products
• Conducts in-process and finished product inspections checking for workmanship, dimensional specs, tolerances, and usability from a functional standpoint
• Checks soldering, wiring, component placement and polarity, subassembly placement, connections, etc.
• Initiates problem investigation requests on internal databases for any component or product that needs engineering investigation
• Initiates and processes component or product purges including pulling product from stock, finished goods, or manufacturing areas
• Processes non-conforming material including coordinating and sending material back to the supplier

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

• Must possess specific certifications as defined by site operations
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of board assembly process and product process flow
• In-depth knowledge of product quality, soldering specifications, and SMT processing systems
• Ability to set up, operate, calibrate, and maintain assembly and hand-soldering equipment and tools
• Ability to recognize problems in the assembly process or with assembly components and to address those problems
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers
• Ability to work effectively with team members and lead the team to high-quality production within tight deadlines
• Knowledge of in-circuit and functional test fixturing
• Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in some or all of the following applications: Word, Excel, and Documentation control systems
• More advanced manufacturing systems knowledge

Physical Demands

• Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
• Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and precise hand/eye coordination, sitting and or standing in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials. Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over.
• Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
• Above demands are carried out within the local existing Health and Safety guidelines.

Typical Experience

• 4 to 6 years in a similar role or industry.

Typical Education

High school diploma and additional courses after high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience and a commitment towards further/additional education. Educational Requirements may vary by geography.
