Summary


The Quality Engineer (Specialist, Operations Quality) provides guidance to and interacts with Process Engineering, Operations, and Management in solving product and process quality issues. Identifies opportunities for improvement and mitigates risks in process deployment and sustaining process capability. 

Detailed Description

Incumbents apply in-depth knowledge in a specific area of specialization. Work is performed within established professional standards and practices. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors and a considerable degree of judgment. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the division’s/department’s operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Works under minimum supervision. Seeks approval from others on matters outside of job/role scope. Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives and possible solutions. Unusual problems are solved jointly with the manager. Work is reviewed for the application of sound technical judgment. May lead a workgroup or project team consisting of technical and support staff. Builds internal and external relationships, with emphasis on those that facilitate the achievement of job/role accountabilities, such as relationships with key suppliers, customers, and internal service. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Creates, publishes, controls, and constantly improves process documentation
  • Demonstrate and train work methods to employees.
  • Fully understands and implements statistics, quality systems, and tools (SPC, Lean, RCCA, CAPA, CI, QMS)
  • Design, execute, and document experiments, draw conclusions from results and data
  • Writes reports on process performance and continuous improvement programs
  • Sets and executes project plans, adhere to timelines and performance expectations
  • Builds internal and external relationships with key suppliers, customers, and internal service.
  • Participates in operations teams to provide expertise and guidance
  • Reports data and results with integrity and accuracy
  • Responds quickly to correct situations where processes and procedures fail to protect our customers 

 

Additional Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Guides auditors through documentation, answering and/or redirecting questions.
  • Acts as the lead auditor for Internal Quality System Audits.
  • Plans, directs, performs, and reports the results of process, product, systems, supplier, and ISO quality audits.
  • Provides consultation and training in the areas of Quality methods, SPC, Workmanship, PCA skills, standards, audit, etc.
  • Hosts Customers, Government, ISO, or other auditors by providing the necessary assistance in defining and translating quality requirements. 

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Strong understanding of documentation processes and quality systems.
  • Strong understanding of ISO9001/AS9100 standards. Prefer AS9100 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and solid project management skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in implementing change orders that affect pricing, costs, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in some or all of the following applications:
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint) Statistical Analysis Software and techniques.
  • Knowledge of SAP is beneficial.
  • Certified LSSGB or higher is beneficial.  

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require repetitive manual movements (e.g., keyboarding), carrying, pushing or pulling light objects, (under 5 kg.), carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects (over 5 kg.), crouching, climbing
  • Sustained visual concentration on small areas, such as monitors, screens, precise eye/hand coordination, sustained visual concentration on numbers, legal documents

Typical Experience

  • 4 to 6 years in a similar role or industry.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields (preferably Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, etc.)
