Summary

The Lead Engineer, Manufacturing Process is responsible for designing, developing, deploying and optimizing processes for manufacturing to achieve quality cost and delivery goals for Celestica and its customer’s products.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Design, develop, implement, or modify manufacturing processes to improve overall yield and support customer products.    
  • Implement plan and lead the assessment of the capability of machines and process applications using Design of Experiments and statistical methods across the full manufacturing process, ensuring maximum utilization of critical resources, maximum throughput, minimum cost and capacity growth.     
  • Identifies and works to remove barriers that slow or prevent the successful attainment of process/productivity improvement and administrative efficiency that will lead to cost reduction and competitive advantage.
  • Lead disciplined process for solving complex single stage or multistage product, process, component, and related problems that affect the efficient operation and/or manufacture of products through the full manufacturing process.                    
  • Initiate and lead the assessment and provide feedback to product designers on suitability of designs for manufacturability.
  • Actively leads teams and provides individual contribution in problem solving efforts on selected projects to reduce defects, improve customer satisfaction, reduce cost and improve cycle time, scrap, rework, etc.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and principles, SPC, FMEA, DOE, and advanced statistics and regression modeling and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required / Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Ability to design tests, evaluate results and recommend solutions to improve the processes associated with SMT and optical manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the design process for systems and printed circuit boards, subassemblies, or other related company products.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment used for systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry and quality standards and methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
  • In-depth knowledge of material science, robotics, machine programming.
  • Ability to design tests, evaluate results and recommend solutions to improve the processes associated with SMT and optical manufacturing.
  • Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
  • Component Prep, Laser marking, Solder Paste Deposition (screening / jetting) / Stencil Design, SMT component placement, Reflow, Tooling design, PTH soldering, PTH manual assembly, Press Fit assembly, Depanelization, Board level mechanical assembly, wire harness assembly, wire prep, SMT data analytics, SMT / PTH manual / automated rework, cleaning processes, coating / potting underfill / ruggedization processes, pack & ship, optical component assembly, fiber / tray handling processes, fiber splicing, IPC-610, quality data (KPI), Manufacturing Operational management, DFM - Mfg, DFA, DFR, Customer specific processes.
  • Project Management - Ability to manage a single line engineering project with a limited number of participants. Create a project/change management plan, establish and distribute project roles, and communicate what is needed from the project participants in order to make the project successful.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. 
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of related experienc; experience in similar job roles

Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
