Summary

The Lead Test Development Engineer is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, technical oversight, and team management of the test engineering department. Beyond technical expertise, this role requires a high-caliber leader who can bridge the gap between complex engineering requirements and operational execution.

You will be the primary point of communication for customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring that test projects are assigned effectively, tracked rigorously, and delivered to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Detailed Description

Core Leadership & Management Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Project Oversight

  • Work Assignment & Resource Planning: Manage the distribution of tasks among the test engineering team, ensuring workloads are balanced and aligned with individual strengths and project priorities.

  • Progress Tracking: Implement and maintain rigorous project tracking mechanisms to ensure all test development milestones are met on time and within budget.

  • Technical Mentorship: Provide high-level technical guidance and oversight to assigned test engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

  • Strategic Communication

  • Primary Customer Liaison: Serve as the lead technical contact for customers, translating complex requirements into actionable test strategies and providing regular, transparent progress updates.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead communication across multiple intercompany organizations (Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality) to ensure seamless integration of test solutions.

  • Presentations & Reporting: Prepare and deliver professional presentations and data-driven reports to internal and external stakeholders, justifying technical decisions and project timelines.

  • Develop test plans to address testing requirements provided by a requesting organization. Test plans include test equipment concept, procedures, cost estimate, etc.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Test Architecture & Strategy: Lead the development of structural and functional test programs, overseeing the entire lifecycle from concept to validation.

  • Advanced Test Development: Design and implement technical solutions using Python, ensuring code is scalable and maintainable.

  • Operational Discipline: Ensure all testing is executed in coordination with the Operations group, maintaining strict safety standards and operational discipline among operators and engineers.

  • Proposals & Analysis: Conduct high-level research and experiments to create technical proposals (solutions and timelines) based on evolving customer requirements.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Programming Expertise: Expert-level knowledge in test development software: Python, and other languages

  • System Integration: Strong knowledge of test fixture design, setup, and hardware/software integration

  • Data Driven: Proficient in analyzing and interpreting complex data to recommend system modifications and improvements.

  • Proven Leadership: Extensive experience in leading engineering teams, managing work assignments, and overseeing project lifecycles.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional ability to coordinate well with multiple departments and maintain professional relationships under tight deadlines.

Typical Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in Structural and Functional Test development within the electronic industry.

Typical Education

  • Education: Engineering Degree or higher in Electronics or equivalent
